1939 Arcade, No. 7290 New York World's Fair Tractor Train in Original Box

1939 Arcade, No. 7290 New York World's Fair Tractor Train in Original Box

Fabulous cast iron toy originally available as a souvenir at the 1939 New York World's Fair. Sponsored by the Greyhound Bus Company. Very scarce version with four cars. It comes complete with it's highly prized original World's Fair box. It was discovered only recently, after being in storage since it was originally purchased in 1939.  It was purchased from the estate of the original owner. Just as incredible is the ultra high grade condition; of both the toy and the original box. Excellent+ to near mint condition toy, and excellent to excellent+ condition box. I nearly fell over when I found it.

Just a short description borrowed from the original 1940 Arcade catalog. This is "an exact copy in miniature of the tractor train in operation at the New York World's Fair. Cast iron with solid rubber wheels. Beautifully finished in blue and orange, the official Fair colors. Consists of a tractor and three trailer cars connected by means of a steel hook. The tractor and cars are cast iron. Driver is nickel plated. The three cars are covered with orange and blue striped lithographed steel."

The box is beautifully illustrated using the same blue and orange colors. A detailed line drawing of the tractor train is show on opposite sides of the box. On either end of the illustration are the World's Fair icons; Trilon and Perisphere. The other two box panels include the name of the toy, manufacturer's name, address, and an "official" statement regarding its licensure.
